December 17th is National Growler Day

Colin Joliat Staff Writer

We’ve discussed before how many ridiculous holidays there are, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t still celebrate them. Thanks to the Beer Mapping Project, this Saturday is one of the finer feasts, National Growler Day.

Growler 281x214 December 17th is National Growler DayUnlike Sweetest Day, the people behind NGD didn’t invent it in order to sell a bunch of cards and terrible last minute knick-knacks. In fact, they didn’t really gain anything from it. The Beer Mapping Project is just a great tool meant to help drinkers drink. I can’t think of a more noble goal.

If you’re not already aware, many brewpubs and some breweries across the United States have the ability to sell you “growlers” of their house brewed beer for you to take home and enjoy. Typically, a growler holds 64 ounces and in many occasions you can bring them back for refills (a refill price is often cheaper than a first fill because you are paying for the glass container).

If you have a brewpub nearby (search here), we’re urging you to visit it and ask for a growler of their finest beer to-go. It’s Saturday, and nothing goes better with a Saturday than some fresh locally brewed beer!

Who can argue with that? I’ll be heading to either Haymarket Brewery or Half Acre to pick up mine. Admittedly, I’ll probably do that tomorrow, but I can hold of until Saturday to drink it. I wouldn’t want John Kimble to show up and tell me that I lack discipline.

What'd you think of this?
