Ditch the beer for these Super Bowl cocktails

Colin Joliat Staff Writer

While many ad agencies are busy creating the most tenuous ties between their brands and the Super Bowl, I couldn’t care less. Good cocktails are good cocktails, and that’s all that matters.

I’ve compiled a few of my favorites from all of the various emails I’ve gotten and now put them in your hands. My goal was to pick combinations that you may not have tried before. Basic ingredients, but interesting mixes. I don’t want you to have to show up at your buddy’s party with 5 different bottles and a syrup in hand. Drink what sounds good, not based on which team you support because none of these distillers is located in New York or New England.

1 splash(es) lemon-lime soda
1 lemon wedge

Serve on the rocks and top with lemon-lime soda. Garnish with a lemon and serve.

Basil Hayden’s End Zone
Ditch the beer for these Super Bowl cocktails12 ounces Basil Hayden’s® Bourbon
3 light beers
1 can Frozen Lemonade concentrate
12 Lemon Wedges

Mix all ingredients in a pitcher. Pour into a highball glass over ice. Garnish with a lemon wedge. Don’t be fooled by my condensed image, that’s definitely a highball glass.

Perfect time to check out yesterday’s Beergarita recipe.

GMEN and Ginger
image005 Ditch the beer for these Super Bowl cocktails1.5 oz Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
6 oz. ginger ale
Splash of amaretto

Add Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum and cola in ice-filled highball glass. Top with a splash of Amaretto. Again, that’s a highball glass even though it doesn’t look like it. I’m all about uniformity here.
