KCCO Black Lager from ‘The Chive’ produced by Redhook Brewery

The Chive announced that they were brewing Chive beer and opening Resignation Brewery a few months ago, but we haven’t heard much since. Now Redhook Brewery is contract brewing the first batch of KCCO black lager.

This is obviously just speculation by me, based mostly on a keg collar, but it doesn’t take Inspector Gadget to see what’s going on. When The Chive stated they were opening a brewery in Texas, they put out the call for a craft brewery with whom to contract brew. They never revealed their potential options, but it’s looks like Redhook Brewery was the eventual choice.

I say that because there’s very little chance that Redhook just happened to name their beer KCCO. It isn’t exactly a common acronym. Plus, The Chive already said they were working on a black lager (Schwarzbier for you German Chivers).

From February:

The first is our Black Lager (German Schwarzbier). It’s a toasty fucker with notes of chocolate but, unlike a heavy porter or stout, it’s amazingly crisp, clean, and light. It’s really a remarkable beer

The second is a Gold Lager. Very light and clean with a nice hop backbone (we switched to a Czech hop a while back which did the trick). Both beers are amazingly balanced and sessionable. We drink a lot here and I don’t like feeling full after 2 beers..

KCCO black lager is the first out of the hopper for Redhook & Resignation Brewery. It will be interesting to see how quickly Resignation gets up and running once the Chive beers hit shelves.

UPDATE: Just one day later and The Chive confirmed the collaboration by posting the label. It’s coming to Chicago, so I’ll definitely be checking it out.
