Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew released just in time for football

What do Miles Davis and football have in common? Beer! Dogfish Head is re-releasing this limited edition stout next week, but it tends to go fast so pay attention.

I’m actually listening to Bitches Brew right now (thanks Spotify), so if this post seems a little jazzier than most you can thank Miles himself for that.

In honor of the 40th anniversary of the original release of Bitches Brew, Miles Davis’ 1970 paradigm-shifting landmark fusion breakthrough, we’ve created our own Bitches Brew — a bold, dark beer that’s a fusion of three threads of imperial stout and one thread of honey beer with gesho root. It’s a gustatory analog to Miles’ masterpiece.

That was written during the first run of the beer back in 2010. The recipe remains the same, so I can tell you with confidence that this is an absolute must try. It’s one of the more complex beers I can think of, and whether it’s your new favorite or not, you’ll certainly appreciate its uniqueness. The recipe was created to compliment Miles Davis’ favorite food, chili. So when you tune in to watch Michigan not lose by 27 later this season, give this food/beer pairing a shot.

I’ve enjoyed this creative concoction on a couple occasions, but have never been able to buy a bottle. If you’re trying to decide if you should attend a beer fest or tap takeovers, limited releases like this are just the reason you need. If that’s not your style though, keep an eye on your favorite beer store’s shelves because Bitches Brew is being shipped to distributors next week.
