Sam Calagione’s TEDx talk about how Dogfish Head reinvented beer
One of the great things about the craft beer industry is that almost all of the breweries have an interesting story behind them.
Dogfish Head is no exception to that rule. It was founded in 1995 by Sam Calagione and has been growing ever since. Their motto is “off-centered ales for off-centered people,” highlighting the fact that the majority of their beers don’t fall into conventional categories. They truly push the envelope when it comes to ingredients and process and have developed some unique brews that are incredibly good. They have 8 year-around beers, so it shouldn’t be tough to give them a shot. Even though the IPA’s aren’t the most unique of the bunch, you really can’t beat them.
Calagione was recently invited to give a TEDx talk about reinventing beer. He details the beginnings of Dogfish Head as well as how they grew to be the powerhouse they are today. I know the video is long and the internet attention span is about 1:45, but it’s definitely worth watching. If need be, fire up the video and then check out the other booze related posts in a new tab while you listen to it.
