Stone 11.11.11 Vertical Epic Ale
Many people believe that beers must be consumed as soon as possible in order to achieve optimal taste, but this isn’t always the case.
Every year since 2002, Stone Brewing Co. has released a beer with the intention of you storing it away. They call them Stone Vertical Epic Ale, and if you can hold out until the final release in December of 2012, it would most certainly result in a epic “vertical” tasting. Unfortunately, if you aren’t caught up, it will cost you a pretty penny to try and track down the first nine releases. Right now, they are for sale on eBay for $1,099. Just because you don’t have the first few brews, though, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy the newest offering.
“Stone 11.11.11 Vertical Epic Ale is NOT your typical chili beer!” explains Brewmaster Mitch Steele. “The famous mild green chilies from the Hatch Valley in New Mexico add layers of delicious flavor with a very mild heat component. And the cinnamon doesn’t dominate the beer’s flavor by any means, instead adding a subtly complex spice note that blends amazingly well with the Hatch chilies and the banana esters present from the yeast.”
Unique is one way of describing that blend, and another would be delicious. The beer was released this week, but sadly my local beer store hasn’t received their shipment yet. Admittedly, I am going to struggle to hide my bottle away once I get it, so I may have to buy a couple. One should tide me over for now, allowing me to store the other as it’s intended.
