This isn’t Big Hurt Beer folks, this is a proven winner, and it’s coming to a store near you.

Stone Brewing Double Bastard 214x214 Stone Brewing Co.s Double Bastard Ale released todayIf you’re smart, the second you finish reading this article, you’ll throw in a phone call to your nearest beer store that carries a wide array of craft brews. Stone Brewing Co.’s “Double Bastard Ale” is one of the few beers that I actively make a point of trying to buy every year, and it hits the shelves today. [I actually quit writing at this point and hopped on my motorcycle to pick it up.] It’s a limited run beer, so when it’s gone it’s gone. I highly recommend stopping and grabbing at least one on your way back from work, class, or Latchkey nailing the babysitter.

This isn’t a beer for the light-livered though. Stone Brewing Co. talks a lot of shit about their brews and how you aren’t man enough for them (see below), but it’s not all pomp and circumstance. “Double Bastard Ale” is the big brother of “Arrogant Bastard Ale,” the American strong ale on which they built their reputation. It packs a punch both through it’s 10.5% ABV and the sheer amount of taste that it provides. The problem with craft beers that have an incredible amount of aroma and flavor is that it’s very easy for them to go under-appreciated. I’m not saying that you have to possess the most sophisticated palate in the world, I know I don’t, but you shouldn’t be drinking this just to finish it. I’d recommend picking up an “Arrogant Bastard Ale” at the same time, and have the little brother one night, and then the big brother the next (or both in the same night in that order). That’s the easiest way to ensure that you’ll truly appreciate all the complexities that this special release has to offer.

Stone Brewing Co. ships to just about every state that a man of slightly below average intelligence can identify on a map. If you aren’t sure, you can check their distribution list here. Not all liquor stores carry it, so be sure to call around first. I’d hate for you to get there and then in your disappointment just decided to say screw it and get a sixer of Miller High Life.
