The alcoholic’s holiday gift guide – part 1
Colin Joliat Shopping for Christmas presents is always a pain in the ass. Every once in awhile I’ll have a year where I know exactly what to get everyone, but that’s certainly not the norm. If you are buying for someone who dabbles in drinking though, I’ve got a few ideas that you are welcome to steal.
Custom Knob Creek Labels
The most obvious gift for that liquor loving person on your list is to buy them booze. It’s a no brainer. Unfortunately, you run the risk of people thinking you didn’t put any thought into the gift. Knob Creek has solved that problem by allowing you to personalize their holiday label (or the standard ones) for the recipient. Knob Creek is no slouch when it comes to making good whiskey, so anyone should be happy to find one of these bootlegger’s flask shaped bottles of goodness in their stocking.
Act fast though, you only have until December 15th to order one.
Absolut Limited Edition
If the person you are buying for isn’t so insecure as to think an non-personalized bottle of alcohol means you don’t care, you are free to get them something right off the shelf. Every year, liquors put out gift sets and special packaging, but nothing is as eye-catching as ABSOLUT HOST. Just about anyone can use a bottle of vodka for their collection, and it’s best to go with one that’s tried and true. I’d also highly recommend buying this for your girlfriend andtrying to pass it off as jewelry. That’s assuming of course she has a sense of humor. If not, and she leaves you, just steal the bottle back and drink your troubles away (in moderation of course).
You should be able to find this at any decent liquor store, and tell them Santa sent you.
Shot Checkers
There’s nothing better than sitting down to a classy game of checkers before going out. I’m not talking about the over-sized board down at the Cracker Barrel though. I’m talking about shot checkers. I spent several years pre-partying around this board, and it never failed to get the job done. Fair warning, there have been some complaints that the frost washes off the shot glasses, leaving you with identical pieces on both sides of the board. I’m sure you can find ways to differentiate though. As a bonus, this is also a great way to boost someone’s collection of shot glasses for the next party. Unfortunately they are only 1oz each, but thankfully they’re fully refillable.
