Tiger Beer is more than just a fun name
I’m not big on low scoring games, but if there was one good thing that came from the LSU/Alabama game last weekend, it was me trying Tiger Beer.
It doesn’t take much to get me to drink a novelty product; I’ll give anything a shot. But while the name was the main reason I wanted to try it, Tiger Beer is anything but a novelty. It’s one of Asia’s best selling beers, and has a following all around the world. The best way I can describe it is as the Budweiser of Singapore, only better.
Tiger is a pale lager that’s intended for mass appeal, and it has achieved just that. It can be found in 60 different countries spanning nearly every continent. I’m told (by AskJeeves) that it is popular in New York and San Fran, but being in the midwest I can’t attest to that. What I can tell you is that I saw it popping up in many friends’ pictures when the Detroit Tigers won the pennant in 2006. Much like I bought Keystone Light while the Pistons were on their run to the championship simply because it said “30 Stones” on the case, I assumed that they were buying the beer just because it said Tiger on the bottle. I’m sure that was main reason, but it was nice to finally learn that the beer itself is well worth the bottle. I was suffering for my team by drinking those Keystones, but buying Tiger for the Tigers would have been treating myself.

Its taste isn’t going to stand up to a lot of the craft beers I talk about, but that’s not what it tries to do. It’s crisp, smooth, ridiculously drinkable, and I’m glad I still have a few more. It has more flavor than just about any of the macro beers you’re accustomed to drinking but isn’t overwhelming like many of the craft brews. If you are looking for a change of pace from your everyday case of Bud Light or the 9% La Fin du Mondes you’ve been drinking, definitely give Tiger Beer a shot. And if you’re a fan of the Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Bengals, LSU, Auburn, Clemson, Missouri, or Frosted Flakes, this is a no-brainer.
If you look closely at the first picture, you can get a glimpse of a couple future alcohol posts. Consider that my gift to you.
