Ayo, CB. What advice would you give to a guy looking to move (albeit slowly, because I’m not exactly flush with cash at the moment) from ‘fast fashion’ like H and M, Topman and Zara, to more quality stuff? Which aspect of my wardrobe would you advise I start with? Love the blog from top to bottom.

When it comes to the health of your wardrobe, I believe that every man should have a balanced diet. Fast fashion (i.e. cheap, yet stylish brands that offer “hot” trending pieces of questionable quality) are like fast food: it doesn’t matter how much you spent on those reduced calorie Fresco chicken tacos, they still aren’t good for you. Just like fast food gives you the illusion of having a well balanced diet when in the long run the pieces aren’t bettering your wardrobe. If you are looking to make the jump from a fast fashion to a more balanced sartorial diet, you need to plan your purchases. Your dollar won’t go as far in terms of quantity, but the quality will certainly be better. It’s a marathon not a sprint. Here are some stores/brands and what they offer in a “next step up” price range to get you started on the right foot:

-Uniqlo (suits, dress shirts, denim, outerwear)

-Brooks Brothers (dress shirts, trousers, sportcoats, ties)

-Polo Ralph Lauren (dress shirts, trousers, knitwear, ties)

-Rugby (suiting, chinos, sport shirts, denim, sweatshirts, knitwear)

-Hugh and Crye (shirting)

-The Knottery (ties)

-J. Crew (knitwear, trousers, suiting, outerwear)

-Run of the Mill Shop (shirting)

-Suit Supply (suiting, dress shirts, trousers, outerwear)

What'd you think of this?
