Who says the “Ask Gabe” section only has to be for the dudes? Ladies, feel free to ask me whatever you’d like on behalf of the men in your life. For now, Lizzy needs advice on behalf of her fiance.
Dear Gabe,
My fiancé wants to purchase deep v-neck t-shirts. Are these stylish for urban East Coast men, and if so, where can I buy some for him?
Lizzy
My initial response is to ask, “why?” I think the deep v-neck tee is extremely trendy and not necessarily stylish. I suppose deep v-neck tees are personal preference, but you either have to be jacked or super slim to pull one off. Not to mention, you have to have ZERO body hair (sorry, Tim). Otherwise, it feels like some cruel trick you’re playing on the world. It’s very much a guido/”Jersey Shore” look or pretty darn hipster, depending on which aforementioned body type you are (I realize I’m totally generalizing here. So?).
In my opinion, plunging necklines should be saved for the fairer sex (yes, that means you ladies). I don’t understand why guys feel the need to show off tons of man cleavage. I really don’t think it’s a great look, regardless of whether or not you can pull it off. I would almost rather he look into a scoop neck tee, just to be a little different. It more or less achieves the same look, but it’s not as drastic. Also, it’ll make him look broader vs. slimmer (the deep v elongates the torso), which I personally prefer. You can find the shirt below at Urban Outfitters (as well as many, many deep v-neck tees should he feel so inclined). Good luck!
