Actions speak louder than words they say and this holds true especially when it comes to our interactions with women. Body language alone can make or break any intentions you may have. So sit up straight, put your shoulders back and pay attention.

8 Leaning Forward
When you’re on the edge of your seat during a movie it’s usually because you’re very invested in what’s happening and are focusing so hard that your body is moving you toward the action. It’s probably safe to say that no one is actually teetering on the edge of their bar stool on a date, but you may find yourself leaning in which can easily make your date feel nervous or like she should compensate by leaning back. Not a great dynamic going on there.

7 Slumped Shoulders
Many alpha male animals that have a decent sized brain will beat their chest and stand up to look larger if they are asserting their dominance. If they are ashamed or afraid, they will make themselves look smaller by bowing their heads among other instinctual actions. We’ve come a long way from these basic acts and yet we still emulate some of them. When we cheer we are loud and stand up and raise our arms making us look larger because we are proud and letting others know it. But, when you have bad posture, slump your shoulders or keep your head low, you’re giving off the impression that you are submitting to your date. Again, not a good dynamic.

6 Holding Hands Too Tightly
This makes you seem either very possessive or worried that she’ll go flying off into the distance like Mary fucking Poppins if you don’t hold on tight. Either way, no bueno.

5 Not Making Eye Contact
Eye contact signifies trust, clear communication and truth. Avoiding eye contact is a great way to tell your date that you don’t like them or that you don’t even like yourself enough to be able to look with confidence into their eyes.

4 Wandering Eyes
It’s certainly not recommended to drill your date with your piercing gaze the entire night, but you also don’t want your eyes to wander too much. Specifically, keep your eyes away from any extraneous cleavage that her outfit shows off as well as that of the waitresses at the Hooters you so classily picked for your date.

3 Smiling/Laughing
Too much of this can actually make you seem less attractive to women no matter how nice your pearly whites are. We often laugh at things that are funny, but we also use laughter as a sort of pressure valve that allows us to get relief from what could be a tense situation or uncomfortable topic. First dates can be rife with these since you’re spending time with someone you just met and that time is spent evaluating one another. Smiling and laughter tends to attract women to you more in a friendly way than a romantic way since so many of them still can’t get enough of the primal, dominating, brooding, tall, dark, handsome persona that confuses the hell out of us.

2 Arms Crossed
Crossing your arms is one of those old biological instincts that originated from the need to protect yourself. In this case, it’s the protection of your internal organs and if you are showing that you need to protect yourself, that doesn’t give an impression of comfort. Open (or uncrossed) arms give a much better indication of warmth, so go for that.

1 Hands In Pockets
This makes you look like the “aw, shucks” shy kid that’s begging not to be the center of attention. If you like to keep your hands in your pockets for comfort, at least keep your thumbs out and pointing at your crotch so your date doesn’t lose focus of what’s important.
