Consumers gone wild: A video essay of Black Friday

Black Friday seems to bring out the worst in people. What once started as a day for major retailers to unleash their best deals has now turned into a free-for-all at every local department store in the country. From appliances to TVs to toys to food, nothing is off-limits on the craziest shopping day of the year.

Here are some of the best and worst videos from Black Friday 2010.

The Target stampede in Northern Buffalo was easily the lowlight of Black Friday. You can make out one man screaming, “help me” as he gets trampled by several other shoppers. Although, from the looks of it towards the end of the video, he continues to shop despite being injured. Nothing screams dedication more than saving $5 on that crock pot you always wanted.

When it comes to crazy consumers, nothing matches Walmart shoppers on Black Friday. Here’s a good rule of thumb I like to follow and I hope, for your sakes, you adhere to the same principles as well. If, for some reason you are shopping and the employees have to use a whistle for crowd control, you really need to re-think your place in this world.

At a toy store, one would think you’d keep your swearing to a dull roar. But this woman at Toys “R” Us apparently never received that memo. Watch as she repeatedly drops expletives, even calling the manager a fa**ot because she simply didn’t get the toy she wanted. I’m more than sure she’s a loving mother.

It appears this woman was temporarily released from the psych ward and allowed to wreak havoc at the local department store. That, or she was trying out for a future role in an Exorcist sequel.

Whodini once sang, “Freaks Come Out At Night”. I humbly ask Whodini to change the title to “Freaks Come Out at 5 a.m. in a Kentucky Walmart”.

The video really wasn’t that exciting until the old lady pulled out the race card. Yes, the cops were brought in because you were black and not because you were fighting over a TV for 20 minutes.

Well, we couldn’t really get through an entire Black Friday post without one huge donnybrook at the mall. Hard to tell what exactly spurred the fight, but we do know that it probably involved a toaster oven of some kind. I gotta tell ya, I’ve had the urge, once or twice, to fight over appliances myself. However, I prefer throwing haymakers over more expensive items like rice cookers and George Foreman grills.
