8 foods we miss from our elementary school lunches
I don't know about you, but when I was a kid it wasn't gym class or recess that was my favorite part of the school day. No, the best time was lunchtime, and not even going home could top it. I'd open my knapsack and bust out my sweet lunchbox with building anticipation to see what my mom had packed for me. Though our palates become more refined as we grow older, we can't help but remember the awesome foods from our childhood elementary school lunches fondly. What were some of your favorite lunch foods from back in the day?

8 Fruit Roll Ups
This sheet of pure fruit-sugar was a great snack to play with before you finally rolled up the remainder into a ball (or tube if you were feeling classy) and chomped it down with unrestrained glee.

7 Fruit by the Foot
Fruit by the Foot was even more fun to mess around with than the Fruit Roll Up. You could use it like a slap bracelet or whip someone with it, eat it inch by inch to make it last or just unroll that bad boy all the way and then stuff it right into your face. So many choices...

6 Lunchables
For the discerning grade school kid, Lunchables provided a good blend of vitamins and minerals from the cracker group, the processed cheese group and the factory-extruded meat group. Remember when you realized that not every sandwich had to be made with one cheese, one meat and two crackers? Mind. Blown. What more could you ask for from a lunch that could be custom-made with your ever so delicate tastes in mind?

5 Gushers
As a kid, the only thing better than sugary gummy candies were sugary gummy candies that squirted even more sugary syrup directly into your nervous system. And didn't Gushers also have those crazy commercials where the kids' faces turned into bloated pieces of fruit? Maybe they were trying to warn us about the future diabetes epidemic these would surely kick-start.

4 Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
Good old PB&J; the quintessential sandwich from childhood. Whether you had it on white bread or wheat, cut into two triangles or four squares, crust left on or cut off, with chunky or smooth peanut butter and grape jelly or strawberry jam, this was a serious treat that couldn't be topped by grilled cheese or even the almighty Fluffernutter.

3 String Cheese
Another great example of food that's perfect to play with; string cheese was nice and salty, individually wrapped and could basically last forever if you took it one string at a time (though you might starve in in the process). Sargento's got nothing on Polly-O.

2 Dunk-a-roos
After Dunk-a-roos, why would anyone want to eat cookies without dipping them in funfetti frosting ever again? The only issue is that we'd always run out of frosting before running out of cookies. Ten cookies for every one cubic inch of icing? Damn Betty Crocker, you're a cold bitch.

1 Handi-Snacks
Salty, buttery crackers meet gluey, processed cheese spread with phenomenal results. Sure, we liked to eat them, but the preparation here was key because when we grabbed that little red plastic spreader we felt like gourmet chefs preparing something special.
