Islamic extremists want the creators of South Park dead

“The Simpsons” certainly didn’t do that — the creators of South Park are once again in hot water for their no holds barred brand of comedy.  It seems that a group of Islamic extremists based out of New York that call themselves “Revolution Muslim” were very offended by South Park’s portrayal of the prophet Mohammad during last week’s episode. They were so upset, that they posted a video and short message on their website that threatened the lives of the popular cartoonists.

“We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo van Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them.”

Theo Van Gogh was a documentary filmmaker who was killed by an Islamic extremist after filming a controversial short film about violence and women in the Islamic religion. And while the group doesn’t say that they are going to “kill” Matt Parker and Trey Stone, it certainly does imply it. The above quote was posted on the Radical Muslim website, along with a photo of the mutilated Van Gogh and the address of South Park’s production company in Los Angeles. And all because of this clip.

That’s right, they didn’t actually show a picture of Mohammad; they merely implied that he was wearing the bear suit in the video. Stone and Parker have proved time and time again that they will do almost everything they can to fight network censorship.  But was this taking it too far just to prove a point about our First Amendment rights? It’s hard to say, but if the censors and the FCC can’t really stop them, then I don’t see Stone and Parker changing the way they write anytime soon.

Has South Park gone too far this time? [CNN]
