And I’m not talking about collars… A well fitting polo shirt can be the stylish man’s alternative to t-shirts in the summer time. One of the problems with polo shirts is that they can be… well… boring. Rather than springing for a crazy polo that is a borderline abomination, make a simple polo pop with some colored chinos. Follow me on this one…

A lot of guys are really hesitant to wear colorful pants. One of the biggest road blocks to color in the male wardrobe is because you will be perceived as a douche, and that is understandable. However if the polo is simple or understated, as in these examples, it helps the outfit look less mundane as opposed to making you look like a d-bag.  While these examples are all in the red family, cooler colored pants like blues (think true or cornflower blue rather than navy), lavender, or light greens (think mint or kelly) are a bit more subdued but still interesting. Yellow is a nice middle ground because it pops but is closer to khaki than red or blue. Do not fear white when it comes to pants. White is a color that literally goes with everything and if you have a bright, patterned, or brightly patterned polo it will look great. As with everything, fit is key: polos should fit well (post on how a polo shirt should fit to come) as should trousers. If you are still worried about being perceived as a jerk, remember that treating everyone with respect will ensure that you are never mistaken for a douche.
