Thankfully, the dark, ugly days of proprietary charging systems are largely over, and everybody just uses USB cables to charge your phone, your camera, sex toys, you know, all the useful fun stuff powered with batteries. The problem now becomes these chargers collect like the technological cruft that they are, and never go away: I personally still have chargers from two phones ago that are perfectly function and yet I can’t unload them.
This is where the RCA wall outlet is pretty handy.
It’s pretty simple: it’s a plug-in device that allows for pass-through AC current on the top, and has two USB ports on the bottom.
True, USB outlets you can install in your wall have been around for a while, but this has two distinct advantages. First, this doesn’t require an electrician’s apprenticeship to learn how to wire up; you just plug it into the wall. Secondly, it’s not hideously ugly. They call these things “wall warts” for a reason, y’know. You can plug this thing into the wall and not get yelled at for despoiling the apartment by girlfriends or OCD roommates.
The two USB ports will charge two smartphones at once, or one iPad, and in fact it’s optimized for iPads. This elegant and simple solution to an annoying problem will run you $20.
