As we enter our third year, this is your State of Guyism address
October 12th is the day Guyism was founded and that means that today marks our adorable little site’s second birthday. So here’s a little update on what we have cooking.
Before we get into what we’re working on now, we’re going to puff our chests out a bit. In the two years since the site has been in existence:
• 55 million people from around the globe have come to Guyism
• These visitors have hailed from 235 different countries
• People have viewed 19,000 different articles we have on Guyism
• Our YouTube channel has averaged over 100,000 views per Guyism Original video
• We’ve had over 50 writers contribute content to the site
• Visitors have commented on Guyism articles over 65,000 times
• Users have arrived at Guyism searching everything from “best standup comedians” to “Kate Upton” to “how to grill a steak” to, uh, “mack stole my corndog”
• We’ve given away over $10,000 in prizes to loyal Guyism Readers
• Our Tumblr, Do It Live, was visited by 40,000 people yesterday, a pretty substantial number by Tumblr standards
• Guyism will have five full-time employees by end of 2011, all without raising a single penny from an investor
In the last calendar year alone, we’ve launched our Guyism Originals video productions, led by former Newsweek producer Ryan Jones. We’ve also rolled out verticals covering style, tech (soon to be kicking into full gear with a new daily contributor), video gaming, and alcohol. We’ve introduced you to the lovable Katie Nolan, your captain through the daily Guyism Speed Rounds.
What’s ahead in year three? Remember the much-discussed Guyism rebrand effort? Subscribers to our beta invite list will be seeing more about that VERY soon. Trust me when I tell you it’s going to be a gamechanger for how you use Guyism.
We also have exciting new partnerships in video, deals, dating, and more on the horizon with the Guyism relaunch, designed to truly make Guyism the one place to go for “what guys need.”
We’re going to teach you how to do the stuff you don’t know but have always wanted to learn in a new section called The Guyism Library. We’re going to bring you a new fully-staffed Entertainment vertical covering the TV, movies, and music guys care most about.
It may all sound ambitious, and it is, but we’re doing everything we can to continue to establish Guyism as the premier independent men’s site online.
Special thanks to all of our freelancers who’ve churned out quality content (including someone like Jeff Wysaski who’s been with us from day one), Jimmy Traina at Sports Illustrated for helping our site reach a lot more people on a regular basis, our advertising partners (Giant Realm, Yardbarker) who’ve helped us continue to afford to do all this stuff, our partner Web sites who help share our content with their readers and give us great links to share with you guys, and our core staff who have been underpaid this entire time but continue to slug it out everyday to continue growing our operation into something amazing.
And, of course, thanks to you, Guyism reader. Without you sharing our links on Facebook or Twitter or even saying mean shit to us in the comments, this site wouldn’t be what it is. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.
