So have you heard about Ocean Marketing?

Yesterday saw yet another example of exceptionally crappy gaming PR being exposed to the masses. But one that’s become a full-on internet meme.

So it goes something like this: a guy pre-orders a pair of wacky gaming peripherals a while ago, but after hearing nothing, decides to send a follow up email. The response he got from the company’s PR team was both rude and cryptic, so a follow-up email resulted. Which in turn led to an exchange that is genuinely mind-blowing.

There’s so much ground to cover that, sorry, I’m not going to bother recapping everything. But for those interested, every email in the various exchanges, between Dave the disgruntled customer and Paul Christoforo, head of Ocean Marketing, can be followed here. Or, better yet, watch the following. Note: pretty much everything said is lifted from the emails, verbatim. Seriously…

But like I said, it’s become quite the internet sensation. Destructoid has the ones most on-top of the situation, including them highlighting one of Ocean Marketing’s videos. Again, this is legit…

Note to all would be PR folks out there: when demoing you stuff, don’t check gum at the same time. Anyhow the post also notes that Paul has apologized for his huge screw ups in the most insincere manner.

But there’s more, like how Ocean Marketing (which is basically just Paul, it’s a one man operation) decided to drop his Twitter feed, which is still listed on the company website. And which immediately got picked up by some dude on the internet, who intends to have fun with it, plus promote his own wares. And yes, the word marketing misspelled by Paul.

Meanwhile, Paul started another Twitter account, called Ocean Strategy, in which the word strategy is also misspelled. And he seems like a real dick, to be honest. And as various business website reporting on the matter, as a casebook example of how not to conduct PR, folks at please like Reddit seem to be keeping the joke alive and well for the time being
