Stay warm and dry with these great Fall jacket options
Recently, we received a question from a reader asking for affordable lightweight, versatile jackets for the Fall. He lives in the San Francisco area, where the weather can switch it up on you in an instant. He had a budget of $200-$300 and asked for our help. Well, search no more. Below are some great jackets that are sure to keep you warm and dry, not to mention keep bills in your wallet. As an aside, don’t forget that some fall jackets do a better job of keeping the warmth in vs. just keeping you warm. As it gets cooler, it’ll be important to layer with cardigans or other knitwear. If you get too warm you can always remove them.
The reader had already said they were aware of the Liddesdale jacket ($149), but I wanted to include this and another option from Barbour. The Liddesdale is a classic transitional Fall jacket. It’s perfect for when the sun goes down in the evening or when the temperatures start dropping ever so slightly. It’s lightweight, so layering is definitely an option should you choose to do so. But don’t go too crazy, its modern, slim-fit is meant to keep you looking sleek.
This the Flyweight Chelsea Quilted jacket ($199) from Barbour, another take on the same diamond quilted pattern. Its utility is similar, but this a slightly more modern (think trim, tailored) design. The flap pockets and funnel collar add a certain flair you won’t get with the Liddesdale. The Liddesdales have become a bit ubiquitous, so you’ll certainly stand out amongst your friends with the Flyweight.
I’ve been on a bit of a Schott tip, lately. Known for their leather jackets and military-grade peacoats, their quality is undeniable. Their new Perfecto line has some amazing styles, harkening back to the good ol’ days of Americana and rugged style. Above is the Marlon ($195), a heavy waxed cotton twill military jacket. Its got a hidden hood and nylon quilt lining. This baby will definitely keep you warm and dry as we move into the colder, damper weather in October and November. The Marlon has tons of pockets to keep all your ish in, so you don’t have to worry about bulging pockets on your pants.
If you’re looking for something not as long as the Marlon, try the Waxed Security Jacket ($130). Similar styling and design, except less pockets. There’s a nice contrasting red flannel lining and also a throat latch for when the wind really starts howling.
