The Campus Socialite Blitz & Beatz Tour 2010: University of Michigan

Before I get into story time and re-cap the Blitz and Beatz weekend, I have to make it clear; the University of Michigan has seriously raised the level of partying in the past few years. Growing up on the east coast, I have a ton of buddies who went to school at UM who thought it was the greatest school in the history of mankind (one specifically who cant go without saying the word amazing when mentioning Michigan in a sentence). After years of hearing this nonsense, I have to give credit where credit is due; Michigan throws down with the best of them. I’m talking about the campus currently, as by no means am I giving props to any student that went to that school between the years of 2003 and 2007. Mix an inter-state rival Big Ten game with the Blitz and Beatz Tour, and the outcome can only be described with one word: EPIC.
After boarding my flight Thursday afternoon from New York, and seeing a plane filled with Michigan and Michigan State gear, I knew this weekend had some major mid-west intensity behind it. Following checking out the campus during the day, I was eager to hit the bars and see what type of talent Ann Arbor produces. Along with the rest of the Campus Socialite crew, we hit up legendary Michigan bar, Scorekeepers, which after this weekend, ranks in My Top 10 College bars. With three pitchers of Jack and Coke’s down the hatch, it was time to go to work and see what type of classy, or not so classy college chick I could bring back to my hotel. I spotted twins on the other side of the bar; brunettes, weight and IQ under 100, and they had the look of champions with one goal in mind; making their daddy proud. After dropping classic TRS lines on them and instantly drawing the interest of one of the girls, I made a power move and threw out the idea of “experimenting with both of them”…. epic fail on my end but lets face it, you can’t bat 1000 all year. Instead of going home with a solid 8 I grabbed a chicken ziti roll and ended up face planting on the hotel bed (Don’t worry, your old buddy did smash throughout the weekend).
Friday morning rolled around with a massive hangover and the urge for a feast to soak up all the booze in my system. We headed over to one of the most famous deli’s in the country, Zingerman’s. This place puts out some of the best sandwiches, and the staff was awesome. They hooked us up with a ton of free tastings, and after downing my Reuben, I felt the food coma coming on. I made my way back to the hotel and kicked it the rest of the day. I woke up feeling like a true Campus Socialite and was ready to do some damage in Ann Arbor. After making m y way to a few bars and house parties, I decided to go back to Scorekeepers to see what kind of disaster scene was going on there. I walked into the bar and was grabbed by a girl wearing a Red Wings hat and jersey who actually tried to eat my face. I am always down for the cause but this girl was a classic war pig, and I had to pass on it. I ended up finding a crew of sophomore girls looking to make bad decisions, and instantly accepted their challenge. After pretending to listen to them about how they plan to go to law school and want to change the world, I found myself changing one of the blonde’s world’s back at her apartment. Chalk one up for me.

Saturday was by far the craziest day/night of the weekend and to make a bold statement, the craziest of the entire tour thus far. I headed to the AEPi house at 8am, which was bumping the beats and pounding down beers. I immediately felt right at home, and knew this was going to be a day only a seasoned veteran can get through. The entire town of Ann Arbor shutdown for the big game vs. Michigan State, and the energy was out of this world. Every house had ragers going on, with people dancing on balconies and roofs, and pounding shitty keg beer. After a solid six hour tailgate, everyone began making his or her way to the stadium. If you have never been to Ann Arbor, then you have never experienced anything like the walk to “The Big House” in your life. Picture 114,000 people dressed in school colors, chanting for Michigan, while they’re absolutely shit faced. The game was good for the first three quarters until Michigan State opened it up on the ground, and literally ran away with the game. Instead of going back and taking a nap before the night began, The Campus Socialite Blitz and Beatz Tour brought an insane concert to Vintage Nightclub. Rock Comedian Brian Smith, G. Curtis and Super Mash Bros. once again killed the scene, and performed an amazing show for one thousand charged up students. After Super Mash Bros. performed a badass encore, everyone headed out to the bars to continue the celebration. I ended up running into the blonde from the previous night and after a few shots of Jager and basically banging on the dance floor, I had to take her back to the hotel for another round to top off the weekend in the right style.
Overall, Michigan was an insane time, and I have to agree with my friends, the place is amazing. From the bar scenes to the tailgates to the game atmosphere, the Wolverines know how to party. Make sure to check back in next week as I recap this week’s stop on the tour, West Virginia University and USC. Keep living the dream…
