Today in style: February 7th

Gabe Alonso Style Editor

I want to start off by saying how excited I am to begin this journey with the Guyism staff and all its faithful readers. I hope to bring to light great clothes, deals, and interesting news to the entire Guyism community. If you ever have any questions or comments, just drop me a line in the ol’ inbox. If I can’t answer, I’ll definitely find someone who can. With that said, let’s get right into it, shall we?

Every morning I’ll be sharing a bit of a round-up from the prior day’s events in the fashion/style world. It may be product reviews, great articles, crazy news, or something different altogether. Either way, I can promise you’ll become way more informed, sartorially-speaking.

1. WSJ.com: The Return of the Ivy League Look – The Ivy style has come back huge the last year or so. The articlereferences Ivy style stalwarts J. Press, GANT, Rugby Ralph Lauren, and Brooks Brothers among others. Don’t get it wrong though, this isn’t your Zach Morris “preppy” style. It’s sportswear at its best, redefining the guy’s guy, and proving that even if you’re playing pick-up football, you don’t need to wear that Belichick cut-off sweatshirt and matching sweatpants.

2. SECRET FORTS: Lightweights – With all this crazy snow and cold weather lately, I can’t help but let my mind wander to warmer climates. James over at SECRET FORTS has a wonderful breakdown of parkas and other lightweight outerwear.  There’s something for everyone, my favorites coming from Junya Watanabe (#1) and +J, Jil Sanders’ new line for Uniqlo (#10).

3. A Time To Get: Persol Goes All Independence Day On Us – The iconic sunglasses brand (think Steve McQueen) updates their classic 649s in red, white, and blue colorways. If you’re looking to step up your shades game, head on over to ATTG and check it out. The $15 back up pair you’ve been using after you sat on your Wayfarers last fall just ain’t cuttin’ it anymore.

4. A Continuous Lean: Tellason Denim x ACL – So if you’re anything like me, skinny jeans and even slim fit jeans just have never worked for you. After a lifetime of sports and my mom’s Cuban cooking, I’ve developed thighs and a backside that doesn’t bode well with slim fit pants. Enter the ACL and Tellason collabo. Made out of Cone White Oak selvedge denim, the fit is a true straight-leg jean and perfect for you athletic types. It’s the “man’s man” selvedge denim, with waist sizes up to 40 so all you BAMFs can dress well, too.
