The search for the perfect undershirt – RibbedTee
About a month ago, I wrote a piece on dressing for humid temperatures. In that post, I extolled the virtues of wearing an undershirt to help wick away sweat and keep you a little drier in the warmer months. Shortly thereafter, I was put in contact with the man behind RibbedTee, a company specializing in undershirts.

To be perfectly honest, I was a little skeptical about their products. I’m old school, I like my hanes t-shirts. They’re cheap, disposable, and what my grandfather used to wear. Never really thought I could buy a “high-end” undershirt. Well, I was definitely proven wrong.
I had the opportunity to try out 3 styles from the RibbedTee product line – classic fit, micromodal, and retro fit. I chose the v-neck collar, as I tend to wear them only under my button-down shirts. As a general “rule,” if you wear a button-down (or dress shirt) without a tie, you should not have a collar from a t-shirt showing. It just looks cleaner and a bit more relaxed.
As soon as I tried one of the shirts on, I noticed how long the shirt was. The longer cut keeps the shirt tucked in better. I don’t know about you, but one of the biggest issues I have with my undershirts is that they tend to get untucked. This creates a bulge of extra fabric at my midsection and makes it look like my button-up shirt fits worse than it does. The longer cut of the RibbedTees coupled with their slimmer cut, makes it feel like I’m almost wearing a second skin. There’s no untucking, no extra fabric, just clean lines.
They’re also very lightweight and not bulky at all. The collar lays flat against my body as well. Sometimes when undershirts start to age the collar gets stretched out and it doesn’t lay right. These collars are thicker and keep their shape far better than your run of the mill Hanes or Fruit of the Loom. I can’t wait to rock these every day in the summer, when I’m walking around the streets of NYC in the stifling heat. I won’t think twice anymore about wearing that second layer in order to help wick away sweat.

We were given samples of RibbedTee products in order to conduct the review. We were not compensated by the company or any of its subsidiaries for this article.
