The world’s first diamond ring: 150 carats of glory
I spent six years trying to convince my ex-girlfriend that when we got married, my wedding ring would have to be a solid diamond band carved from one giant stone. She thought I was insane, and not surprisingly that relationship ended. The ring, however, has finally been created.
Swiss Jeweler Mohamed Shawesh has created the world’s first diamond ring, and it comes in at a ridiculous 150 carats. As of now the price is expected to be a meager $70-million, so I guess you might want to consider saving some money instead of blowing it on that $94,000 whisky.
The passion for this extravagant jewelry piece has been rightly expressed by Mohamed Shawesh President and CEO, Shawish Jewelry. He said that creating a ring made entirely from a faceted stone might seem a fantasy but to embark on the adventure to create it would be akin to taking the ultimate artistic challenge. The dream to create a ring from a single faceted diamond was thus born.
This could have been a reality long ago had he just talked to me. I’ve been pushing for this for nearly a decade. It just goes to show you that sometimes that random dude on the internet is on to something. Is Jacob the Jeweler still in business? I’ve got some ideas for him.
Check out these pictures and tell me if you’d rock this rock in public or if it should be left to the ladies.
