New York Fashion Week: Tommy Hilfiger S/S 2012

Right away, the point was made. Hilfiger was going to push the boundaries of the prep style he had once mastered and was now beginning to fully embrace once again. An iridescent camo played the lead role, as the pattern shifted from the outerwear to the shirts, shoes, and shorts. Yes, camo boots were on the runway.
The outerwear was definitely a bright point. Hilfiger had some brilliant leather trenches and moto jackets. But my favorite had to have been the slim lapeled, varsity-sleeved suit jacket with both jetted and flap pockets. By far one of the most creative things I’ve seen in prep style the last year or so.
The rest of the collection was quintessential Hilfiger. Tons of stripes and even some tuxedo detailing on lightweight trousers and seersucker suits. I loved the dark chambray double-breasted jackets and trousers. The inseams were interestingly longer on the trousers and surprisingly shorter on the shorts. Guys, looks like we better start doing more squats.
I was truly impressed by Hilfiger’s show and there are tons of pieces that I could see myself wearing next year. I’m not entirely sure of the price point and I know that camo may seem a bit ridiculous to most of you. But take note of the more traditional pieces. Realize that all skinny everything is going away and a more tailored, classic fit is here to stay. A lot of runway shows are totally unwearable. I’d say about 85% – 90% of Hilfiger’s show definitely is. Check out my favorite looks below and you can check out the rest of the collection here.
