“What is the Internet” video from ’94 makes you feel old

Shawn Norris

It’s hard to believe that there was ever a time without the internet. But a mere 15 years ago, people didn’t have iPhones that they could surf the web from almost anywhere or laptops that also served as personal media centers. It’s weird to watch someone explain to you what the internet is when many people feel it’s almost imperative that we all have immediate access to it in this day and age.

Weird, huh? The email mailman? Electronic address to my computer? Asking the locals in Europe for travel tips? Old people talking about bombing stuff in the war? A mere 16 years later and the internet is composed mostly of pornography, people who hate other people commenting on how much they hate other people and oh yeah, everything else one could possible think of. When this was filmed Wired Magazine was only about a year old and I’m guessing their offices are now much more plush than they were back then, as this whole internet thing isn’t exactly the fad that so many believed it to be. If you’ll excuse me, I now have to go check all the hate mail I get on my Compuserve email address.

What'd you think of this?
