15 of the sexiest female athletes of summer 2011

The kids are done with school, the vacations are planned, and the bikini bodes are oiled up and ready to go. Summer is here and for many out there, outdoor sports are in full swing. So today our focus is on golfers, tennis players, track stars, surfers, and of course, beach volleyballers as we highlight the fifteen sexiest female athletes of summer 2011.

For years, Wacholder was just known as the “pretty face” on the AVP tour. But after eight championships, she’s widely considered one of the best in the game. She’s teamed up with former partner Elaine Youngs, in the hopes they can regain some of that magic that made them one of the most feared teams in beach volleyball.
Lori “Lolo” Jones was looking to build off her gold medal in the 60m hurdles at the 2010 World Indoor Championship, but injury has set her back a little this year. In the meantime though, the track star continues to model and show off that sexy body that has regularly made her one of the sexiest female athletes of the last decade.
We admit, we’re a bit biased when it comes to Spanish golf sensation Beatriz Ricari. After seeking our help to get into a tournament, we received a personal thank you video from her. Yes, it was truly adorable. Now that she finally has her first LPGA tournament victory under her belt, she’s poised for bigger and better things this summer.
When Maria Sharapova reached the semi-final of the French Open just two weeks back, she was on the verge of completing a career Grand Slam. A rare feat in women’s tennis. Unfortunately she ran into the Li Na juggernaut and was disposed of rather easily. But now that Maria is healthy again and playing well, we fully expect her to compete at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. Provided, of course, she doesn’t injure herself grunting.
The former Stanford standout is now a member of the U.S. Women’s soccer team. She’s become such a favorite amongst the fans that somebody made this tumblr account in her honor. It’s worth a look—if only for the website name.
At just 22 years old, Slukova has quickly moved up in the beach volleyball world. It seems odd as well, because you don’t normally view the Czech Republic as a haven of beach volleyball talent but nonetheless, Slukova is individually ranked #31 in the world. Recently, she teamed up with partner, Kristyna Kolocova, to finish ninth at a Grand Slam event and in the process, beat the best Italian team in the world.
Hosseini is one of those athletes that doubles as a model in her spare time. Judging from some of the pics and videos we saw on her website, it’s an excellent career choice. She’s also branching out into the acting world. Here’s an interview where Hosseini talks about her audition to be Willow in the new “X-Men: First Class” (unfortunately the producers foolishly didn’t choose her).
I’m convinced the Russians built a factory sometime during the Cold War that regularly produces hot female tennis players. There’s been a number just in the last decade alone with Anna Kournikova, Maria Sharapova, Maria Kirilenko and of course the wonderfully talented Vera Zvonareva. She’s looking to build on her two runner-up performances last year at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open and finally breakthrough with a Grand Slam win.
You may not recognize the name if you’re not a fan of soccer, but Alex Morgan was the number one overall pick in the women’s professional soccer draft in January of this year. She plays for the Western New York Flash and is currently on the USWNT roster. Last year, Morgan scored a crucial goal against Italy on the road to secure a spot for the U.S. in the upcoming World Cup in Germany.
Just this year alone, track star Allyson Felix has finished 1st at three separate events. Twice in the 400m and once at the recent 200m event at the Grand Prix in New York. Suffice it to say, the 3-time Olympic medalist is off to a great start for the summer. She’s also one of Nike’s featured female athletes in the Make Yourself proud campaign.
If you’re looking for an athlete that also doubles as a humanitarian, look no further than Karina Petroni. You’ve probably seen her face before, that is if you’ve seen the very popular documentary, The Cove. Petroni was one of several activists that uncovered the secret slaughtering of dolphins in a Japanese town.
Fellas, I have some good news. Norwegian hurdler Christina Vukicevic is single and ready to mingle. In March of this past year, those pesky Norwegian paparazzi revealed that Vukicevic and her boyfriend Andreas Thorkildsen were no longer a couple. So if tall, Scandinavian blonde athletes are your thing , book your next trip to Oslo.
Yes, there’s another Russian Maria in the tennis world. And though she’s not as popular as her counterpart, Maria Kirilenko is nonetheless just as sexy. Currently ranked 26th in the world, Kirilenko is coming off a doubles win last month in Madrid and is primed and ready for her first Grand Slam victory this summer.
The last surfer on the list and certainly not the least, the wonderfully talented Bruna Schmitz. Sports Illustrated thought so highly of the Brazilian bombshell that she graced the pages of their swimsuit issue this year. And if you want to see her in a sexy bikini fly-fishing in Canada for the shoot, go here. Highly recommended.
With the Women’s World Cup about to start in less than two weeks, it only makes sense that members of the host country’s team pose in Playboy. In fact, I hope this continues to be a tradition for years to come. Photos of the five ladies…Annika Doppler, Ivana Rudelic, Julia Simic, Kristina Gessat and Selina Wagner graced the cover of German Playboy on June 9th and it’s caused a hell of a firestorm in the country. Needless to say they’ve topped our list of sexiest female athletes of the summer for good reason.
