Guyism’s daily look at what’s hot in the world of sports.
The Albert Pujols deadline has come to a close with no deal in sight. And nobody seems happy about the situation including a very pissed off Tony LaRussa who believes the union is trying to orchestrate a deal to get Pujols the largest contract in league history (he made $96.7 million last year). Added LaRussa, “is bull—-. That’s not the way it should be.” Let’s hope for everyone’s sake, LaRussa didn’t take his anger out with some booze last night.
In a jailhouse interview with the New York Times, ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff said that the Mets did not know what was going on and where their profits were coming from. That doesn’t seem to matter to Trustee Irving Picard who is suing the organization for $300 million dollars in fictitious profits. The whole situation is a complete mess and though former governor Mario Cuomo was asked to step in and mediate, things haven’t gotten any better.
The Big Three lived up to their billing last night as they combined for 90 of the Heat’s 110 points en route to a victory over the Pacers. Dwyane Wade led the way with 41 but it was his full-court lob pass to LeBron that had everybody talking after the game. Most wondered if Wade has or had a future as a QB in the NFL. Given the Dolphins troubles under center, Wade would probably be an upgrade (especially over Chad Henne).
Reports of Diana Taurasi’s demise were greatly exaggerated. After allegedly testing positive for a PED, the Turkish federation lifted the ban after the lab retracted their finding. This leaves Taurasi available to play in the 2012 London Olympics. Taurasi’s club team on the other hand isn’t so amused. They lost their star player down the stretch and ultimately cost them a chance at a championship. “Our player was right. We will pursue this. We have documents,” Yildirim said on the club’s website. “This is a disgrace. … It probably cost us the European Championship.”
