Alex Morgan, playing in her first World Cup, scored the insurance goal the U.S. needed en route to a 3-1 victory over France. What looked to be a great start for the USWNT turned ugly when France began to dominate in the midfield. They finally broke through in the 55th minute on a cross from Sonia Bompastor that fooled U.S. goalie Hope Solo.

Late in the contest however, some substitutions from Pia Sundhage, inserting Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan proved to be crucial as Rapinoe’s control in the midfield led to Abby Wambach’s header.

And here’s video of Alex Morgan’s chip shot goal in the 82nd making it 3-1.

The U.S. moves on to the final, Sunday, against the winner of Japan/Sweden taking place this afternoon. It has been 12 long years since the team has played in a final game finishing 3rd at the last two World Cups. With the team’s confidence at an all-time high after thrilling victories over Brazil and now France, they will surely be the favorite’s this weekend.
