French Open semifinalist Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia has pulled out of the U.S. Open, citing a rib injury.

Cibulkova is No. 16 in this week’s WTA rankings and she would have been seeded at the year’s last Grand Slam tournament. Her withdrawal allows Alberta Brianti of Italy to move into the main draw.

I honestly thought there was a rule in place in tennis for stuff like this…

Yep, there is…Just looked it up.

USTA Rule 69

“If a hot chick is injured prior to a tournament, she may only be replaced by another chick of equal or greater hotness…”

And with all due respect to Adriana Brianti, she doesn’t hold a candle to Dominika Cibulkova. In fact, if Brianti is playing, I fully expect the New York fans to give her a Bronx cheer.

That should teach her.

What'd you think of this?
