Bernard Hopkins says Donovan McNabb is not black enough
Bernard Hopkins is either in desperate need to drum up attention for his upcoming fight or he just picks strange times for obscure social commentary. Ten days before his scheduled fight with Jean Pascal, Hopkins took time to say that former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb is not “black enough”. If you feel stupid for reading this, don’t worry, I feel stupid for even writing it.
According to Hopkins, McNabb had a privileged childhood in suburban Chicago and, as a result, is not black enough or tough enough, at least compared with, say, himself, Michael Vick and Terrell Owens.
“Why do you think McNabb felt he was betrayed? Because McNabb is the guy in the house, while everybody else is on the field. He’s the one who got the extra coat. The extra servings. ‘You’re our boy,’ ” Hopkins said, patting a reporter on the back in illustration. “He thought he was one of them.”
The insinuation that a person whose raised by good parents and isn’t living in poverty is somehow “not black enough” makes me want to pimp slap someone in the face. Preferably, Bernard Hopkins, should the situation present itself.
I realize he’s taken his fair share of shots to the head, but last I checked, he was cleared by our friendly neighbors to the north to fight. That means, at the very least, he has a somewhat functioning brain. Which also means that he should be smart enough to keep his wildly insane opinions on social commentary to himself.
