Bob Sanders released by Colts
Jim Irsay is an extremely active Twitter user, especially for someone who is the owner of an NFL franchise. Today, the head of the Indianapolis organization tweeted that safety Bob Sanders, once the cornerstone of the Colts defense, has been released this morning.
We have released Bob Sanders today. We thank Bob 4 all his incredible contributions from his Sup Bowl pic 2 def player of year honors.
In his six years playing for the Colts, Sanders has been injury prone to say the least. He’s played more than six games only twice in his entire career. Of the 96 regular season games the Colts have played in that time frame, Sanders has only dressed for 47. Yea, not exactly a guy you can depend on.
Not surprisingly though, when Sanders was healthy, he made the Colts a much more feared defense. Leading up to the 2007 Super Bowl, Sanders was a madman in the playoffs with 22 tackles, a forced fumble and two interceptions.
His career is certainly not over, but a team would have to take a pretty big gamble to bring him on.
