Bruins become third team in NHL history to blow 3-0 series lead
There’s a fine line between an incredible performance by a team and a collapse of monumental proportions by their opponent. I guess you can say the Flyers-Bruins series probably had a little of both. But considering that no team had ever been up 3-0 in a series and 3-0 in game 7, I’m starting to lean towards the collapse route.
Although the Bruins had lost 3 games in a row, they thought a game on home ice would solve all their problems. And by many accounts a 3-0 lead in a hockey game, while not insurmountable, is pretty secure. But after their 1st period barrage, the Bruins offense went ice cold.
In the third period, the Flyers were given a gift when a Bruins line change resulted in a too many men on the ice penalty. On the ensuing power play, Simon Gagne didn’t disappoint scoring his 4th goal in as many games.
