Guyism’s daily look at what’s hot in the world of sports.
The Commonwealth games have officially gone from sporting event to circus act. Organizers have ordered Langur monkeys to protect and serve the athletes village. The Langur, a highly trained primate is extremely territorial and can fight off as many as 20 wild monkeys at once. Also, in a somewhat surprising move, the Commonwealth games were dropped from FSN India and moved to the Animal Planet.
It’s all about return on investment for Jim Furyk. After winning 11.35 million dollars at last weekend’s Tour Championship, Furyk revealed his putter was bought at a discount shop for a whopping $39 dollars. The owners say they even gave him a discount.
The already depleted Big East wants to add TCU to its conference. TCU, located in Fort Worth falls nowhere near the rest of the schools as far as location goes. In fact, the closest school? Louisville, 868 miles away. That will make for some interesting travel during basketball season.
Carmelo Anthony, who has been involved in trade rumors all summer spoke about the Collective Bargaining Agreement that expires next summer. “It’s a big risk”, said Anthony. By the way, this was the same man who turned down a 60-million dollar extension from the Nuggets. A deal he will never see again with the new CBA.
That’s the official tally after most of the Cowboys visited Pappas Bros. Steakhouse in Dallas. And who was stuck with the bill? None other than rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant. The same man who refused to carry Roy Williams pads in training camp. And we wonder why athletes declare bankruptcy so soon after they retire.
World #9 Rory McIlroy said he would love to meet Tiger Woods at the Ryder Cup. “Unless his game rapidly improves in the next month or so, I think anyone in the European team would fancy his chances against him”. Of course, Woods took the barb personally even though at the time he had just finished next to last at Firestone. For the first time in his career though, Tiger doesn’t nearly wield the powerful stick he once had. That is unless you ask any of his mistresses.
