Carson Palmer traded to Raiders for two first-round picks
Carson Palmer has officially been traded to the Oakland Raiders for two-first round picks. The deal became imperative for the Raiders after starting quarterback Jason Campbell went down with a broken collarbone Sunday.
The first first-round pick is in 2012 and the other is a conditional first-round pick in 2013. Palmer was in the Bay Area on Tuesday morning getting a physical before the deal could be completed.
According to a source, if the Raiders win a playoff game in the 2011 season, the Bengals would get a first-round draft pick in 2013. If the Raiders don’t win a playoff game in the 2011 season then the Bengals would receive a second-round pick in 2013.
Palmer has been on the fritz with the Cincinnati Bengals for months after telling the team he would retire if they didn’t trade him. The Bengals opted to start the season with rookie quarterback Andy Dalton and have not looked back, going 4-2.
As it stands now, Kyle Boller will get the start this week against the Chiefs. But with a Week 8 bye, expect Palmer to get in enough reps with the team to possibly see his first action at home against the Broncos.
How sharp will he be? Who knows. But given the price the Raiders paid, they are probably expecting him to get this team to the playoffs. A tall task for a man who hasn’t seen live action in quite some time.
