Charlie Davies will not play in World Cup

Sadly, Charlie Davies’ comeback from a devastating car accident will not include a World Cup appearance. And let’s just say, he’s a tad bit upset about it. He’s even gone so far as blaming his club team in France for badmouthing him to U.S. coach Bob Bradley.

The striker claims Sochaux president Alexandre Lacombe wrote to the U.S. coaching staff without his knowledge, saying Davies was not fit enough to play at the World Cup and that the club would not medically clear him.

Davies, who was nearly killed in a car accident last October, told French radio station RMC late Wednesday that he was capable of playing in the tournament in South Africa and felt “very hurt, very sad” and “very angry.”

Outside looking in, if Davies was actually ready to play and was physically fit, isn’t the onus on Bob Bradley to make an informed decision? Seems to me like Bradley pulled a “Pontius Pilate” and washed his hands of the ordeal and avoided hurting Davies’ feeling himself.

And as for Davies, look, it’s gotta be hard for him to sit at home during the World Cup. But even he can’t think he is ready to play only 7 months after this array of injuries…

-broken left elbow
-broken right femur, tibia and fibula
-broken nose, forehead and eye socket
-ruptured bladder and brain bleeding

After looking at that, dude is lucky to just be alive.

What'd you think of this?
