Condoleeza Rice, Darla Moore join Augusta National as first female members
Condoleeza Rice and Darla Moore have become the first female members at Augusta National, home of the Masters tournament. Chairman Billy Payne made the announcement today calling it a joyous occasion.
“These accomplished women share our passion for the game of golf and both are well known and respected by our membership,” Payne said in a statement. “It will be a proud moment when we present Condoleezza and Darla their green jackets when the club opens this fall. This is a significant and positive time in our club’s history and, on behalf of our membership, I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome them and all of our new members into the Augusta National family.”
I think I speak for everybody when I say–um, welcome to the 21st century Augusta. We’re glad you could join us.
In Rice and Moore, Augusta welcomes two extremely powerful and prominent women. Rice is a former National Security Adviser and Secretary of State under George W. Bush, Moore is a successful banker and financier.
