Corey Brewer’s halfcourt heave sends game into overtime

I like to call this the “Larry Brown Corollary of Fundamental Basketball”.

You see, years ago when Brown was coaching the Pistons, his 33rd team in the league, they found themselves up 3 against the Lakers in a NBA finals game.

Brown instructed his players not to foul and instead give the Lakers a chance to tie the game.

And I’ll be damned, that’s exactly what Kobe Bryant did resulting in their only win of the series. After the game, Brown insisted that “playing basketball the right way” doesn’t include fouling when you’re ahead.

Never mind the fact that a player has to step to the free throw line and hit the first free throw and somehow magically have the second free throw miss ever so perfectly to land in another players hand to tip it in.

Yep, that’s fundamental.

As for the Houston Rockets, a bit of advice. When you’re up 17 in the first quarter and let your foot off the gas, stuff like this happens.

Let’s just hope next time it doesn’t turn into a triple overtime affair. And for God sakes, play “un-fundamental” basketball.

What'd you think of this?
