Danica Patrick wants to be the Honey Badger of NASCAR
Perhaps the most overused and annoying sports phrase the last few months has been “Honey Badger”, a reference to LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu. In the championship game, the phrase reached its nadir when the venerable Brent Musburger said it fourteen times.
So it makes perfect sense that such an annoying phrase gets picked up by maybe the most annoying female athlete of all-time , Danica Patrick. Here’s what the diminutive NASCAR driver had to say about her expectations for 2012
“The honey badger, he takes what he wants,” Patrick said on Thursday. “And that’s how I’m going to be this year, like a honey badger.”
A brief glimpse into Patrick’s history as a driver suggests she’s more of a tortoise, but I digress. Her best showing on the NASCAR Nationwide Series has been a 4th-place finish at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March of last year. In fairness, however, she was on a limited schedule the last two years, balancing her time with IndyCar. So, in 2012, you can expect a more focused and ferocious Danica Patrick. One, that will apparently attack her competition with no regard to her well-being. Or, for that matter, the well-being of her car.
