Danny Ferry resigns as Cavs GM
The dominoes continue to fall in Cleveland as GM Danny Ferry resigned his position today. Combine this with Mike Brown’s firing just two weeks ago and it looks like Dan Gilbert is pulling out all the stops for soon-to-be free agent Lebron James.
Ferry released this statement:
“I thought it was important that there was as much clarity as possible in the organization at this time, so things could start moving forward,” Ferry told The Associated Press. “It’s important then whomever is hired as the head coach knows, feels and understands the people he is going to work with.”
Under Ferry’s 5-year reign, the Cavs posted an astounding 272-138 regular season record reaching the NBA finals once. But it was their recent lack of post-season success that drew the ire of fans and upper management.
Will this be enough to hold onto King James? Only time will tell. But you have to think these moves are a sign that there is some kind of communication between owner Dan Gilbert and Lebron.
A communication that Gilbert hopes will certainly keep Lebron in Cleveland. Otherwise, “The Mistake by the Lake” will become yet another NBA graveyard.
