In maybe the most important MRI in the history of Chicago sports, Derrick Rose’s ankle appears to be intact. That doesn’t really make Bulls fans feel any better because reports have Rose still in a walking boot despite the news. Without Rose, the team would be lost on offense and a stunning upset by the Pacers wouldn’t be that far fetched. And given the Bulls #1 overall seed in the entire playoffs, it would be a devastating blow.

blackhawks game winner ot 135x95 Sports by the numbers: 4/25/11

Speaking of Chicago upsets, the Blackhawks are on the verge of one with the Vancouver Canucks. After trailing 3-0 and looking rather lifeless to start the playoffs, the Hawks have reeled off three in a row forcing a game 7 in Vancouver. Last night’s overtime game winner came courtesy of Ben Smith at 15:30. The Canucks have tried everything possible to switch up the momentum, even benching Roberto Luongo in favor of Cory Schneider but alas, nothing has worked. Who knows what happens in game 7 but if Chicago does end up coming back, it will arguably be one of the better ones in sports history.

Chris Paul triple double 135x95 Sports by the numbers: 4/25/11

We’ve certainly seen our fair share of highlight performances this year in the NBA playoffs. None, however, may have been as impressive as Chris Paul’s 27 point, 15 assist, 13 rebound outing last night against the Lakers. The triple-double was the second in his playoff career. “Regardless of what happens in this series, it was good to see the city with a smile on their face,” said Paul, who hit 7 of 14 shots and all 11 of his free throws. “It was fun, man. I’m just so thankful to get to say this is my way of life.”

New York Knicks Boston Celtics 135x95 Sports by the numbers: 4/25/11

If you were waiting for the Knicks to resurrect professional basketball in the city of New York, you’ll have to wait another year. In a rather lackluster effort, the Knicks fell in straight games to their divisional rival, the Boston Celtics. At times, the Knicks looked like they had full control of games, especially in Boston. But their execution down the stretch combined with their poor, poor defense did them in. Many are now questioned whether coach Mike D’Antoni will survive through the summer. He may be an offensive genius but he’s never shown an ability to win consistently in the playoffs with defense.
