Make no doubt about it, the Celtics were the better team last night. Perhaps the Pistons schedule bit them in the ass as they seem to have played lackadaisically in the first half.
But even if, the Celtics may have found an ingredient the Pistons can’t solve. And that is the play of their interior big men. At the Palace a couple of months ago, it was Big Fat Baby Davis who torched the Pistons. Yesterday, it was none other than the venerable Kendrick Perkins.
Look at the numbers:
Davis and Perkins: 53 minutes, 17 pts, 24 rebs
Dice, Max, and Amir: 60 minutes, 5 pts, 10 rebs
We might as well have played Stuckey and Dixon in the frontcourt, they probably could have produced similar numbers.
What perplexes me most about this Pistons team is their inability to shut down penetration. Whether it be from pick n roll or just beating your man to the basket. It killed the Pistons last year when Lebron ran free in the Pistons paint and the Cavs moved onto the Finals. And unless the Pistons can solve this issue, they’ll be on the outside looking in again.
