Three Stooges 277x214 Which coach had the biggest blunder?

If you watched football this past weekend, you witnessed a comedy of errors from coaches around the nation. Spearheading the shenanigans was the ending for the LSU-Tennessee game. And while our vote certainly goes to Les Miles for coaching dunce of the weekend, these other men put forth a mighty fine effort.

So cast your vote at the bottom

Les Miles & Derek Dooley

In some ways, the final few seconds of the LSU-Tennessee game was beyond hysterical. Watching the clock wind down as players ran on and off the field was something that screamed for Benny Hill music. But when you realize that the two men in charge of both football teams are millionaires who are paid to make decisions in crunch time, well then, it’s not as funny. So in the battle of wits, Miles’ Tigers may have come out on top but in the end, it’s mankind that took one giant leap back.

Jim Caldwell

The decision to call timeout late in the Jaguars-Colts game last night may haunt coach Jim Caldwell for quite some time. The Jaguars had thrown up the proverbial white flag, hoping to shift momentum in overtime against a Colts squad that had just tied up the game with 40 seconds remaining. So when Jones-Drew ran one up the middle to wind the clock down, everyone assumed it was over, that is until Jim Caldwell called timeout. Maybe he thought Manning could engineer a drive with 20+ seconds remaining. Maybe he thought the Jags would fumble a snap? Who knows really? The fact of the matter is that the Jags used that timeout to springboard themselves into field goal range—culminating with this 59-yard boot from kicker Josh Scobee.

Mike Martz

Many people believe that Mike Martz is an offensive genius. If you are one of said people, please proceed to go outside, find the nearest available moving vehicle and stand in front of it. Any success Mike Martz has is negated when his starting quarterback inevitably gets killed sometime during the season. So give credit to the Bears’ Jay Cutler. He somehow lasted 3.5 games before a 9th sack by the New York Giants yesterday finally did him in. No word on whether criminal negligence charges will be brought against Martz for repeatedly calling for 7 step drops with no blocking support.
