Dwyane Wade sues Twitter, email hackers

Last Friday, Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade filed a lawsuit in a Texas federal court against the parties responsible for hacking his Twitter and Yahoo email account.

In the court case, Wade is seeking the return of all originals and copies of his business and personal records as well as unspecified actual and punitive damages and legal fees. The suit identifies the defendants accused of illicitly accessing Wade’s computers and accounts as “John Does 1-50″ because Wade doesn’t know who they are. The suit is filed in Texas because the owner of one of the email accounts used to access Wade’s Yahoo! account lives in Tyler, according to the complaint.
The hacking happened between Jan. 2007 and June 2011, and involved modifying account settings and changing account passwords, according to the suit.

Wade addressed the hackers in a somewhat lighthearted YouTube clip posted in June. Obviously, it appears things have gotten a lot more serious since the airing of the video.

One of the strange about things about the civil complaint is that they actually list Dwyane Wade’s personal email account (d3_flash@yahoo.com). Granted, I’m sure it’s not in use anymore, especially after the hackers dissected it, but nonetheless, it is rather odd.

What’s also odd? Somebody uses Yahoo! as their primary email. Maybe I’m too Google-centric these days but I was under the impression everyone used Gmail now. Thankfully, it wasn’t d3_flash@aol.com or I’d be forced to lock DWade with my 75-year old father in a room and give them a tutorial on how to use the internet in the 21st century.
