Father attempts to rough up son’s opponent after HS wrestling match
High school sports are serious business. The competition is intense and often times, parents in the crowd get quite vocal in support of their child. Over the years, we’ve seen a number of these overzealous parents resort to fighting in the stands with one another. We’ve even seen family members run on the field to attack referees as was the case with that Sarasota Youth Football brawl in September of last year.
The latest incident of “parents gone wild” involves threatening a child at a wrestling match in a Buffalo area high school. How far did 46-year-old Kenneth Winter go? Well, he ran out onto the mat in an attempt to snap the kid’s neck.
“The father was upset over the officiating,” Kelly said. “He felt his son was being roughed up, so he ran out to the mat and stopped the match.”
Winter allegedly then threatened to break the boy’s neck and kill him, police said.
Wait, it gets better.
Winter was removed from the gym but then ran into the teen in the lobby.
An off-duty trooper happened to be at the tournament and overheard Winter threaten the teen again, Kelly said. Winter then allegedly threatened the off-duty trooper who advised Winter to leave the gym area.
Not surprisingly, he was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. The Winter’s may not have a future in high school wrestling but you’ll undoubtedly hear from them again. Presumably as a father-son tag-team combo in a Buffalo backyard wrestling league.
