Former boxing champ Edwin Valero kills himself

Shortly after being arrested for killing his wife, former boxing champ Edwin Valero hung himself in a Venezuelan jail. Apparently, the Venezuelan police didn’t deem it important to confiscate clothing and/or keep a suicide watch on somebody who openly admitted to murdering his wife. He was found by another inmate who then alerted officials to what was happening.
Valero was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly told hotel security that his wife Jennifer Viera was dead.
Though Valero has had past legal problems outside the ring, inside he was anything but. He compiled a 27-0 record in the super featherweight and lightweight divisions and even set a world record by winning his first 18 professional fights by first round knockout. He’s fought as recently as February of this year and had dreams of eventually taking on world champion Manny Pacquiao.
