Gina Carano will return to MMA before the end of the year

Gina Carano will make her triumphant return to MMA before the end of the year according to her manager Scott Carp. If you recall, Carano’s June 18th bout with Strikeforce was canceled after she allegedly failed a pre-fight physical–or at least, that’s what her camp was telling people. Other sources, including Sports Illustrated, said that she was medically cleared to fight.

So what was the reasoning behind the cancellation? We speculated that her weight may have been an issue as some photos of her in March showed that she had put on a few pounds. We’re certainly not calling Carano fat, more or less big boned’d. Even at her best, she’s had trouble making weight for her division. One time, she even famously disrobed at a weigh-in to shed those last few tenths of a pound.

More importantly, the sport needs Carano back and frankly, her absence, now going on two years, has been far too long. Should she not return soon, as her manager stated, it’s a wonder if she’ll ever return.
