Graeme McDowell wins U.S. open; Els drops F bomb
It had been 40 years since a European had won the U.S. open. But down the stretch on Sunday afternoon, after Tiger, Phil and Ernie had let their chances fall by the wayside, only two men had a shot at victory. Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland and Gregory Havret of France.
McDowell did just enough to edge out Havret with a final round 74. It was the highest final round score since Andy North did it 1985. Needless to say, it was a frustrating day for many players. The leader after 54 holes, Dustin Johnson, imploded after a triple bogey on 2 and a double on 3. To his credit, Ernie Els actually held the lead on the front 9 but fell apart on the coastal holes. He did however, provide this epic F-bomb when his approcach came up short.
