I was already prepared to write the Miami Heat obituary this morning, but somehow, someway, they beat the defending world champion Los Angeles Lakers last night 94-88. The win ends their 5-game losing streak but more importantly, the win eased some of their doubts about end of game scenarios. Dwyane Wade did his part stripping Kobe Bryant late in an important possession that gave the Heat the lead. And Chris Bosh, he’s crying no more. One day after asking for more shots, Bosh scored 24 points.

After Dwight Howard was hit with his 16th technical of the season and subsequently suspended, Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy had some choice words for the league. “This is the system David Stern and his minions like,” Van Gundy said. “So that’s the system you have”. David Stern responded in kind with something simple and straight to the point. “I would render a guess … that we won’t be hearing from him for the rest of the season”. Stern 1 Van Gundy 0.

As we head into the 15th day of mediation in NFL labor negotiations, tensions are high. The extension, which gave many fans hope last Friday, ends today and so far, nothing has been reached by the two sides. The war of words is beginning to happen in the media as well as Jeff Pash of the NFL and George Attalah of the union traded barbs late yesterday. “Jeff Pash was part of an executive team that sold the networks a $4 billion ticket to a game they knew wouldn’t be played. The only thing they’ve been committed to is a lockout”. Yea, that deal sounds like it’s definitely getting done soon.
