Horrific Alpine Skiing accident

A. Isaac Senior Editor

In doing some video research for the upcoming Winter Olympics, I stumbled onto a gruesome ski crash clip. Now normally, I wouldn’t pass this along to our readers as its over 14 years old, but there are two reasons why.

1) Its embarrassingly slow in the sports world post-Super Bowl

2) This ski crash is much more horrific than others.

I’m not an Alpine Ski expert but why is there a guy hanging out in the middle of the course right after a blind jump? The skier, Tatiana Lebedeva of Russia hits the man so hard that he does a cartoon-like flip in the air and lands on his head. I can’t imagine how fast she was going at impact but the 2009 World Record for a human on skis was 156 mph.

Uh, what?

Both people in the accident suffered broken legs and Lebedeva never raced competitively again.

So a friendly warning to officials and bystanders at the Vancouver games: Stay out of the middle of the course. Your legs will thank you later.

What'd you think of this?
